The time and energy you take obsessing about it, planning it, thinking about it, worrying over it, beating yourself up for not doing it - takes longer than it does to do it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eNow we have a word for that - Executive Dysfunction. \u003c\/strong\u003eWhen we talk about executive function we mean a series of steps your brain takes to get something done.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eExecutive dysfunction shows up for a lot of us, including folks with ADHD, autism, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, and trauma histories. There are so many different 'flavors'. ADHD executive dysfunction, anxiety executive dysfunction, and chronic illness executive dysfunction are some of them. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThings like task initiation - being able to start a task without being asked. Organization - having everything you need to do a task. Time management - knowing how much time a task will take.
